How to Resolve SQL Server Setup Error due to Compressed Directory




Problem Scenario:

 

The error prompt below is encountered during the installation.

At the bottom of the setup page, it says it is due to a compressed directory.






Resolution:


1. Go to Drive C: > right-click the Program Files folder > click Properties.


2. In the Program Files Properties, click the Advanced button.





 3. Untick the Compress contents to save disk space checkbox and click OK.






4. In the Program Files Properties, click Apply.



 

5. In the Confirm Attribute Changes prompt, select Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files and click OK.



 

 

6. In the Access Denied prompt, click Continue.

7. In applying attributes, click Ignore All if the error prompt appears.


 



8. Perform the steps from 1 to 7 for the Program Files (x86) folder.




 

9. Run the SQL Server Setup again and it should now install successfully.
