Overview:
Before you start creating stock items in QNE Software, it’s essential to set up Stock Categories,
Stock Groups, and Stock Classes. These classification tools help organize your inventory more
efficiently, making it easier to track items, generate accurate reports, and streamline
transaction processing. Defining these structures early ensures consistency and clarity across
your inventory system.
Scenario:
You are managing inventory for a manufacturing company that produces office furniture.
Your operations involve purchasing raw materials, assembling products, and selling finished
goods. To build a scalable and organized inventory structure in QNE Software, you start by
setting up:
- Stock Categories to classify items by type or function, such as Raw Materials, Work-in Progress (WIP), and Finished Goods.
- Stock Groups to organize items by production line or department, such as Wood Components, Metal Parts, Upholstery, and Packaging Materials.
- Stock Classes to assign control rules or tracking methods, like Batch-Controlled Items (e.g., varnish with expiration), Serialized Items (e.g., custom-built executive chairs), and Non-Stock Items (e.g., design services or subcontracted labor).
Procedure:
I. Creating a Stock Category
- Go to Stock > Categories. Click the Add button.
- On the floating window, enter the details of the new category.
Stock Category Code (Required)– A unique identifier for the category (e.g., RAW MATS, WIP, FG).
Stock Category Name – A descriptive name for the category (e.g., RAW MATERIALS, WORK IN PROGRESS, FINISHED GOODS).
- Toggle the Active icon to enable the category, then click Save.
The new category is now available for use when creating stock or service items.
II. Creating a Stock Group
- Go to Stock > Groups. Click the Add button.
- On the floating window, enter the details of the new group.
Stock Group Code (Required) – A unique identifier for the group.
Stock Group Name – Descriptive name for the group. - Toggle the Active icon to enable the group, then click Save.
III. Creating a Stock Class
- Go to Stock > Groups. Click the Add button.
- On the floating window, enter the details of the new class.
Stock Class Code Required) – A unique identifier for the class.
Stock Class Name – Descriptive name for the class. - Toggle the Active icon to enable the class, then click Save.
Application:
Once Stock Categories, Groups, and Classes are set up, you can assign these
classifications to individual stock items during creation or editing. This structured
assignment enables you to organize inventory with greater precision and consistency.
Furthermore, the system allows you to generate detailed reports filtered by category,
group, or class. Using these report filters, you can quickly analyze inventory performance,
monitor stock levels, and make informed decisions based on specific segments of your stock.
This dual functionality of classification and filtered reporting enhances inventory management efficiency, improves data accuracy, and supports better control over your stock operations.
